(Resolved) Slow performance and site outage May 25th after 3:30 PM PST
Some students and teachers will see that Code.org is currently slower than normal. Everything is still usable, but may not work as quickly as you’re used to. To fix this problem, we’ll need to temporarily take down the website for all users while we fix the database. We expect this will take between 10 and 30 minutes.
We don’t want to interrupt classrooms. Code.org is used around the world 24/7, so there is no good time to make this fix. However, looking at our graphs of usage, traffic slows considerably around 3:30 pm PST when school days end on the west coast. So, we’ll plan to make this fix today at 3:30 to get the site back up as quickly as possible and responsive for all users.
We sincerely apologize for the disruption to your classroom and any inconvenience this may have caused. Thank you for using Code Studio. Our engineers are working hard to resolve this issue as quickly as possible.
Alice Steinglass
President, Code.org
UPDATE 3:48 PM: The site is currently still up and we are testing the fix now. Thanks again for your patience!
UPDATE 4:00 PM: Everything is fixed! Thank you for bearing with us.
In honor of Mother’s Day and all the women who inspire us, Code.org’s Curriculum Manager wanted to share one of the many reasons why her mom deserves recognition today (and every other day).
“When I was in High School, I had no interest in computer science because I didn’t see myself fitting into the group of people who typically took the class. As I headed off to college, my mom urged me to take one computer science class. So with no idea what the class was like, I signed up to take computer science during my first semester.
“Just 3 weeks into the class, I was planning to change my major and possible career path.
“Without my mom pushing me to take one class, I would never have known how much fun computer science is! She was always there for me to confide in when I hit road bumps in my computer science classes and she supported me through them all. Even when I decided to teach computer science instead of taking a job in the industry my mom was so supportive of my decision. She saw how teaching computer science was my true passion and how I could make an impact on so many students’ lives.
“I feel very lucky to have had such an amazing role model and support system. I hope my work at Code.org helps to expose as many students to this amazing field just like my mom did for me.
“Thank you for always being there for me and happy Mother’s Day to my incredible mom Wendy! ”
